Nutrient of the Month: Sulfur
Sulfur is an essential element. The sulfur content in the average adult body is primarily contained in three amino acids, the remainder is stored as sulfates attached to other substances in the body.
Sulfur is essential for collagen and keratin. It gives these tissues strength, shape and hardness. Sulfur helps in the conversion of proteins, carbohydrates and fats to energy. It is necessary for blood clotting and the production of insulin.
Good sources of sulfur include, mustard, eggs, seafood, beans, milk and milk products, nuts and meat.
